Structural Changes Following Hemispherectomy

Structural Changes Following Hemispherectomy2018-01-26T17:56:32+00:00

The scale of changes which occur after hemispherectomy in the remaining hemisphere remains unknown.  Here, for the first time, we applied a technique to compare volume of the both gray and white matter in a group after hemispherectomy to age-matched controls.  Our results indicate the presence of both atrophy and augmentation in the areas of the remaining hemisphere.  Understanding these changes will potentially guide both predicting the outcomes in each individual case and manipulating interventions to maximize the potential of the remaining hemisphere.
