A lobectomy or lobe resection is a surgical procedure in which a lobe of the brain is surgically removed. The most common form of epilepsy surgery is temporal lobectomy. Some studies have shown that up to 80 percent of children become seizure free after this procedure. The second most common epilepsy surgery is frontal lobectomy, which results in seizure-free rates in up to one-half of patients.
